EU to ban single use plastics!

Hi Guys and Girls,

To start the week off on the right foot I wanted to give you some positive news.

The EU is set to ban single use plastic plates, cups, straws and cutlery by 2021.

The European Union is taking the lead in saving the world from single use plastics. The EU parliament has voted to ban single-use plastic cutlery, plastic cotton swabs, straws, and coffee stirrers as part of a sweeping law aimed at fighting the plastic waste that pollutes oceans and beaches. Only around 9% of plastics ever get recycled so this news is a big win in the fight for common sense. Hopefully this will be the catalyst for other countries to start about bringing in their own laws in regards to tackling the plastic pollution problem.

Now onto some Magware news. Our manufacturer has begun making the stamping compound dies needed for the manufacturing processes. Multiple dies are needed to be machined for the manufacturing of the Magware. There will be four sets of dies created for each of the 3 utensils, a stamping die, a forming die and 2 injection molding dies. The stamping die cuts out the outline of each of the utensils from Aluminum 7075 sheet material. The forming die creates the 3 dimensional shape of the spoon and fork. The injection moulding dies over-mold the recycled polypropylene onto the utensils locating the magnets into place. 

As soon as the stamping and forming dies are complete will begin testing. Products are rarely perfect first time off tooling. Usually some small changes are needed to make sure all the tolerances are correct. We are hoping to share more information in regards to this testing as soon as the tooling is complete.

There are also several other processes involved to create the utensils which involve heat treatment/tool hardening, CNC machining, sand blasting and hard anodizing. I will go into more details of these processes in later updates when we are creating golden samples of the product.

Also just to let you know, I have been working on a pouch for the chopsticks, hopefully I will shave some more news in regards to this fairly soon:)
